About Me

Jay Guttenbeil

Why Did I Start Compass Project Partners?

I started Compass Project Partners after noticing a genuine gap in the market for people ready to take the next step, whether that’s starting a renovation, building a dream home, or launching a new business venture. I also know these decisions can feel overwhelming, with plenty of questions along the way: Where do I start? Who can I trust? How do I know I’m getting fair value?

In moments like these, it can make all the difference to have someone in your corner, someone who can guide you through the options and keep things clear. That’s where I come in. I created Compass Project Partners to bring my skills and experience to the table and support you through the ups and downs of renovations, new builds and fit-outs, helping you make confident decisions and move forward with clarity.

I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and I’m proud to keep delivering this kind of support through Compass Project Partners.

My Background

I’m a facilities and project management professional with 19+ years’ experience across commercial, retail, public‑realm, sporting, health and education assets. I lead complex capital works (typically $250k to ~$20m), administer AS2124 and AS4300 contracts, and work comfortably within State Government procurement and compliance frameworks.

My style is practical and outcome‑focused. I bring strong constructability judgement from my carpentry trade background, backed by clear governance, stakeholder management and risk discipline.

Deliverables and Responsibilities

  • Capital works delivery (scope, design coordination, procurement, construction, handover and defects)
  • Procurement & governance support (tendering, approvals, reporting and probity—Queensland Government context)
  • Contract administration and Superintendent services (AS2124 / AS4300), including claims, variations and close‑out
  • Cost, programme and risk control (forecasting, assurance and practical problem‑solving in live delivery)
  • Facilities and precinct operations optimisation (service delivery, compliance and lifecycle planning)
  • Stakeholder and supplier management (clients, users, consultants, contractors and community)
  • Regional delivery & Indigenous engagement (remote logistics, local participation and partnership delivery)
